Dramatic, brilliant red morphs to orange and fades to nearly mystical waves of tan and cream below on this stunning Nourot Studios hand created art glass vase. You must see this in person to appreciate the depth of the colors and how the waves swirl -- they seem to be actually moving as you walk around the piece, coming alive to mimic the ocean.
This piece is such a classic shape, as interpreted by a master glassmaker Micheal Nourot. It is absolutely pristine with no damage and absolutely no signs of use. It is a fabulous example of the red glass that was his specialty, particularly “Red Satin” and “Scarlet Nova."
Fabulous to display or use, it is a pleasing 7 inches tall by 7-1/2 inches across and a very heavy nearly 3 pounds (before packing).
A mid-century creation, it was individually made, one of a kind, signed on the bottom NOUROT RG - 45 - 82 - DLL
The Nourot Glass Studio was founded by world-renowned Micheal Nourot in San Francisco, California in 1974. It was the first contemporary art glass studio built in the United States. His incredibly imaginative productions have been chosen by celebrities, major corporations, two U. S. Presidents -- Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton -- and even a Pope: in 1987 he was commissioned to produce glassware including goblets, pitchers and communion platters for the Celebration of Mass by Pope John Paul II, who was visiting the United States.
Micheal Nourot, who retired in 2012 due to health concerns, passed away in May, 2015 at the age of 66. His son Nicolas continues to operate the studio.
