This gorgeous dappled carousel horse with an appealing sweet face, tossing mane and real hair tail dates from about the year 1900. At approximately 66 inches long, this is a full size horse. It is carved of basswood with a correct hollow body. Fully restored (an older restoration by an acclaimed carousel restoration artist from Maryland), it is complete with glass eyes (probably original) and a beautiful, real horsehair tail. There are no issues -- it is ready to move right into your home.

I purchased this horse from a nationally known carousel authority, who has authenticated it.

This jumper was made at the Abilene, Kansas factory owned by "Colonel" Charles W. Parker for one of his turn-of-the-century steam riding galleries. It is a hard-to-find "transitional" carving from just before 1911, the year Parker moved his operation to Leavenworth, Kansas. At his new Leavenworth location, showman Parker began to produce wildly flamboyant, ostentatious figures with over-emphasized, exaggerated bodies.

Not many of these more realistic, earlier Abilene horses like this one were produced, and even fewer are known to have survived -- here is your opportunity to own one!

CONDITION: Needs nothing! Solid and sound, carved wood with a correct hollow body. NO breaks or any damage. There are a few very minor seam separations, expected in these older wooden horses and occasional surface nicks and dings.

IMPORTANT - PLEASE NOTE: The right hind leg is solid and sound -- The metal rod attached to it is NOT a brace holding a repair !! It is there to prevent people from stepping on the leg and breaking it while trying to climb onto the horse.

The display stand is included, along with a hard cover copy of the wonderful book "Art of the Carousel" by Charlotte Dinger, where similar horses are shown in the chapter about C. W. Parker.
