This is a tiny china egg cup from the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad, better known as the famous "Milwaukee Road." The pattern name is Traveler, and it was made for the Milwaukee by Syracuse China.
It seems impossibly fragile at 2-1/2 inches tall with a slender pedestal base, but this little piece holds a single boiled egg perfectly.
Condition is lovely with NO cracks, chips, flakes or repairs. There are only a few, very lightest surface utensil marks that can't be seen unless you tilt it in bright light. It is extremely clean on the inside (sorry - our photo looks gray, it is NOT), and there are no stains or discoloration.
The pink goose is a fine example of Syracuse China's airbrush shadowtone technique, in which the strong pink rim color fades gently into the white base ware color. The black highlights were added by hand.
"Traveler" was chosen as the name for this interesting pattern to suggest strength and speed, strong assets of the Canada Goose, which inspired china company designers. Larger pieces show mountains and pine trees, which passengers could view from speeding train car windows.
There are no markings on this egg cup, which is perfectly acceptable because the base is so tiny. We can guarantee it is authentic because ONLY Syracuse China made this unique pattern, producing and selling it ONLY to the CMStP&P.
