Here is a hard to find china single egg cup in the Traveler pattern from the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad, the "Milwaukee Road."

IMPORTANT: We have TWO of these available; the only difference is that the goose differs slightly on each (smaller/larger, longer/shorter neck).

CONDITION is absolutely perfect, appearing unused with NO cracks, chips, flakes, repairs or crazing. The colors are bright and clear with no blurs.

This little eggcup is not bottom marked -- not surprising because it is so tiny -- but it is absolutely authentic, because Traveler was an "exclusive" pattern. (Syracuse China contracted to produce and sell the design only to the CMStP and no one else. Consequently, although railroad backstamped pieces are preferred, non-railroad marked Traveler china is absolutely authentic.)

"Traveler" china was used on the Milwaukee Road streamliner trains between 1937 and 1969. It is instantly recognizable: the base china is white, with a strong pink airbrushed design of Canada geese winging high above pine trees, with a mountain background.

BACKGROUND: As the story goes, following up on a request from the Milwaukee Road to buy new dining car china, a Syracuse China Company senior salesman traveled to Chicago to present several designs -- and the railway officials rejected them all. After the unsuccessful meeting, as he walked back to his hotel, he passed by an art gallery where he noticed a painting of Canada geese on display in the window. Inspired that the geese could become a unique symbol suggesting that the new trains would be swift over long distances, the salesman again approached the railroad officials, who liked the new idea. Using the fast flying geese as their inspiration, the china artists in Syracuse then created the Traveler pattern, and the rest is American railway history.
