This cutest puppy dog is a "penny bank" made by the Hubley Manufacturing Company. Designed by Grace Gebbie Drayton, it's a charming little terrier with a red bow. Just below the coin slot on the back is impressed DSGN PAT 1914 (Design patented in 1914)
We understand this doggie's name was "Puppo,." one of Hubley's still bank animals. This one was originally painted black (quite a bit of the black paint has worn away, but it's hard to tell because the cast iron is such a dark color). Much of the red on the ribbon and bow remains. IMPORTANT: The eyes originally were painted very lifelike, but most of that paint has flaked away. SEE OUR PICTURES PLEASE.
SIZE is 4 inches tall. The base is 2-1/2 inches by 2-3/4 inches. Weight before packaging is an even 16 ounces (1 poune).
CONDITION: NO rust, NO oxidation, no broken or missing parts. This casting is wonderfully made -- molded in two pieces are held together firmly with a flat-head screw. They fit extremely well with no wide gaps. Very little seam filing was done, and what was done, is superb.
The iron penny bank features a sitting terrier pup wearing a red bow around her neck. Named "PUPPO", it was designed by Grace Gebbie Drayton for the Hubley Mfg. Co. Cast from two pieces, it is held together by a flat head screw. The back is stamped DSGN PAT 1914. She is 4" tall and is 2 1/2" x 2 3/4" at the base. This dog bank was painted black with a red bow. Much of the paint has worn off and there is some oxidation, however this little guy has a lot of charm and could easily be restored if you like that look.
