Here is an extremely nice utility lock made for the Western Maryland Railway by the Eagle Lock Company., together with what likely may well be the original key. They are a great working pair!

THIS LOCK has everything going for it. Made of steel, its color is rich and warm, NOT POLISHED but having an actual glow to it. It is wonderfully clean and responds immediately to the key.

The lock displays beautifully with markings all over it -- it is strongly stamped WMRY on the shackle. An impressively large "Eagle"decorates the face, and below the keyhole is "SIX LEVER." On the same side of the shackle is stamped 12W20 in small letters that disappear into the body when the shackle is locked.

SIZE - the body of the lock is 2 inches across and about 3/8 inch thick.

THE KEY is brass, the "winged" type used in this kind of 6-lever lock. It has a hollow barrel that fits the pin perfectly. It works smoothly with the lock. There is P150 stamped on one side of its bow and no maker mark.

Western Maryland memorabilia is highly sought after. This extremely nice set would be a fine addition to any better collection!

BACKGROUND from Wikipedia: The Western Maryland Railway was an American Class I railroad, operating from 1852 until 1983 in the states of Maryland, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania. Heaquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, it was primarily a coal hauling and freight railroad, with a small passenger train operation.

The WM became a property of the Chessie System holding company in 1973, although it continued independent operations until May 1975, after which time many of its lines were abandoned in favor of parallel Baltimore and Ohio Railroad lines. In 1983, it was fully merged into the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, which later was also merged with the former Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad into the Chessie System in 1987.
