"Walt Disney's Railroad Story: The small-scale fascination that led to a full-scale kingdom" reveals a side of Walt Disney that most people do not know about: how his fascination with railroading and deep love of trains served as an enormous influence on the creation of the magical empire that became Disneyland and later Disney World. The dust jacket relates it best: "This passion followed the consummate showman from his humble beginnings in Illinois and Missouri through his enchantment with the small-scale live steam hobby, evolving into the full-scale Disney Parks and their authentic steam-powered trains. "

Author Michael Broggie grew up in a family that was deeply involved in developing the original Magic Kingdom; his father Roger, a precision machinist, was the first "Imagineer." As a Disney insider, Broggie was able to obtain highly in-depth information and interviews with Mrs. Walt Disney, employees and others, in this incredibly informative yet very personal biography.

A beautiful hardcover with rich maroon boards, this book is well protected by an original dust jacket. The inside pages are rich, high-quality stock that set off hundreds of black-and-white and color photos and illustrations that enhance the narrative. Many of these are from previously unpublished personal collections. Overflowing with personal experiences and descriptive passages, once you start reading, it's difficult to put it down.

PRINTING: Stated First Edition, printed in 1997.
SIZE: A perfect "coffee table" size - 9-1/2 by 12 inches and 431 pages (including the index). It weighs an enormous FIVE POUNDS before packing.
ISBN: 1-56342-006-6

CONDITION: Truly superb. Wonderfully clean and obviously carefully cared for. There are a few surface marks and light scuffs on the dust jacket, but otherwise, If you didn't know it was pre-owned, you would think it was right off a book store shelf.

IMPORTANT: The ONLY (only) issue we can find is that a previous owner affixed her address label on the first inside page (See our last picture - we have not attempted to remove it).

This book would be a fabulous gift for any Walt Disney fan.
