BUY 1 or ALL - $12 Each, Your Choice, 10% off more than one: Here is a group of brass tags from the New York Central & Hudson River Railroad, which existed between 1869 and 1914. Each disk is individually numbered; no two are alike. They were made by the American Railway Supply Company. Each disk is approximately 1-3/8 inch across and has a hanging hole at the top and the AmRySupply mark at the top. They were made for use by employees at the NYC&HRRR Sub Division 6. We found them at the estate sale of a railway hardware collector in Fonda, New York.
IMPORTANT: These are selling first come-first serve. PLEASE LOOK AT OUR PHOTO SHOWING WHICH ARE AVAILABLE - "SOLD" tags are X'd out. We will do our best to give you the number(s) you request, but we can't guarantee that any individual tag has not already been sold.
Condition is terrific. All the stamping is clear and legible, set off with black fill. There are NO splits or cracks. A few are slightly bent, from use. Color is very attractive with a great patina. NONE have cracks or splits or any serious problems. They make neat gifts, and can be used for all kinds of purposes - they are great on key rings!
These were used by the railroad in a sort of library system to keep track of tools and equipment used by workers. Each item would have one of these tags attached. When a man took a tool out to use for work, the clerk would take the tag and keep it with his name. Then if the tool disappeared, they would know who to charge for it!
