For your consideration is a lovely soup plate from the New York Central Railroad. Made by Buffalo China, this is an early piece. The pattern name is Vanderbilt. It carries the full railroad backstamp: Made for the New York Central Railroad, with not one but two Buffalo China marks.
Size is approximately 9 inches across, the size of a standard dinner plate; but this was made for soup or similar dishes like chowder or stew.
Our "Restaurant China: Vol II" (Conroy) says this Buffalo China mark dates from between 1915 and about 1940.
CONDITION is extremely nice. We had trouble finding any surface use marks. The glaze is strong, and the pastel rim band decoration is subtly sophisticated. There are absolutely NO cracks, chips, flakes or repairs .
