Here is an authentic hat badge from the New York, Susquehanna & Western Railroad. We believe it is brass. The occupation is "Collector," a very difficult one to find.

SIZE: Just under 4 inches long (measured straight across) and 1 inch tall. It retains its gracefully curved arc shape for fitting around the front of a uniform cap.

CONDITION: This badge is an attractive, coppery color. There is no maker mark. There are no bends, twists or splits. The black fill in the lettering displays beautifully with almost no chipping or flaking. The only "issue" is cosmetic: there are surface color variations/discolorations, caused by use and exposure to weather and sunlight.

FROM WIKIPEDIA: Formed in in 1881 from the merger of six smaller railroads devastated by the financial panic of 1873, the New York, Susquehanna & Western Railroad's intended purpose was to be handling coal from eastern Pennsylvania to New York City. It was leased in 1898 by the Erie, which soon after took over complete operation of the line. The railway was purchased by the Delaware Otsego Corporation in 1980. Today it is a 400-mile regional operation headquartered in Cooperstown, New York.
