The exquisite expression on this kitty's face is so impossibly sweet it is hard to believe she is cast iron ! She is a Hubley "Sitting Cat" -- a door stop, so incredibly natural and appealing in original paint with only some very minor chipping on her nose and the outer edges of her ears.
She is marked HUBLEY inside in not one but TWO places and is a quality, early product, molded in two pieces that fit tightly together.
Beautifully molded, this is a Persian cat, with a crisply detailed fur coat in tabby striped gray. The expression in her large green eyes is piercing yet soft, as though she knows you're coming to pet her (but she won't admit it).
At approximately 8 inches tall she is about three-quarters the size of a real cat. She weighs about 7 pounds, capable of holding just about any door, but she would love to sit by a fireplace or a sunroom or anywhere in a purr--ever home.
CONDITION: Sound and solid with no cracks, chips or missing pieces and no repairs. Almost no paint chipping or flaking, and NO rust except for some lightest, surface-only inside (essentially a discolored surface). Most of her original paint remains. There are two original screws on this cat, and neither appears to have been used (see our picture).
IMPORTANT: we are not sure about the color - it looks like she may have sun faded on the front. Her front side seems slightly tannish color in some places, and there is whitish in a few places (on her tail tip and down her front and forepaws) as though someone may have tried to add color (but we are leaving this as found).
This kitty is the companion to Hubley's "Fireside Cat" which is more common and is so sweet lying down. Both appear in door stop collector guide books and are among Hubley's most familiar and beloved creations.
