This elaborate brooch is not marked but tests to 18k, but the chain is 9k. It is almost 3 1/2 inches long and 7/8 inch wide. The coral is beautifully carved into 2 cameos and an acorn drop. Italian in origin, the cannetille work is typical of this time when gold was scarce and artisans had to do with much less of the precious metal. This brooch has a ring at the top so you could wear this as a pendant, perhaps on a pearl necklace or a velvet ribbon. C. 1830. In good condition with some natural inclusions to the coral.
