This brooch is so unusual both in its size and its decoration. The brooch is made of pinchbeck and has a serpent wrapping itself ( in an eternity figure) around 2 shell cameos. I am not familiar with what the cameos depict, but the top one had a figure with a club looking like it is attacking a cherub. The bottom cameo had a seated lady holding fruit from a basket of fruit. The pin is almost 3 3/4 inches wide and 1 1/8 inch tall. The top cameo is damaged around the bottom bezel, but is does not detract, and seems to be in the besel fine. The tube hinge and c catch are very old replacements. C. 1820. and probably English or French in origin.
