I have collected and seen many Victorian lockets and this one has to be one of my favorites. First, it is larger than most at 2 inches long including the original bale and 1 inch wide. The workmanship and detail is extraordinary including the tiny garnet in the center. I actually believe this was intended to be a mourning locket to hold hair given its thickness, but it has pictures in it. It has the original bezel and glass too. Finally, the condition is beyond excellent for a pendant that is about 130 years old. The rope chain is not original to the pendant but is still very old and at 24 inches is a great length and can be used for other purposes. The entire piece weighs 35 grams and looks like fine jewelry. Simply stunning.
