The Maciel Silver Factory of Mexico City is known for its high-quality handmade silver cuff bracelets and this is a classic example of its amazing work. It is signed MACIEL, Made in Mexico and "900/1000" for its silver purity. According to Billie Hougart in "The Little Book of Mexican Silver Trade and Hallmarks", the maker's mark on this cuff was used from 1940-48.
Beautiful high-relief repousse Aztec or other ancient design or symbols decorate the top and sides of the cuff with a chased pattern creating a textured background. The workmanship is fabulous and it does not surprise me that his pieces are quite desired and collectible. The reverse is almost as interesting as the front. It is just over 2 inches in the center at its widest, and the center piece "pops out" for depth. It would work best for a medium to large size wrist as it has some give but could really not work smaller than 2 inches across.
This very special silver cuff bracelet is in excellent vintage condition and I know you will be very pleased.
