This lovely piece of Victorian history has so many things going for it that makes it unusual and hard to find and in such wonderful condition. First, it is quite large, without the bale it is over 1 1/2 inches long and over 1 inch at its widest. The cameo is 3/4 inch long and quite lovely. The front is quite ornate with super relief work and the gold filled locket has a wonderful patina and looks real. It also has the original clip for a chain to go through. Let me know if you need one and I can help with that too. The back opens to have all the insides including the glass. Since it is deep I think it was intended for hair or another keepsake. Its just too pretty to be called a mourning locket in my opinoin. The closure is nice and tight. The condition is excellent with some wear on the inside and back. At 13 grams, it's a nice weight also.
