From the 1940's, this is such a fabulous and rare find for the collector and to wear. In this designer set, Robert used the highest quality imported rhinestones and hand set them gilded filagree with open work mounting. Even in the 1940's this set was expensive for costume.
The brooch is 4 inches at its tallest and 2 inches at its widest. The ear clips are 1 3/4 inches. The stones are in such beautiful pastel shades with deeper tones. The brooch is signed Original by Robert and Sterling and the ear clips are marked sterling.
Since this is such a rare set and these Robert and similar Hobe pieces are so desirable, I have researched it especially for condition. Most of these pieces on the market or displayed maintain some type of wear, especially with the medal work as does this set, but mostly with the earrings. The sterling even makes this set more rare and adds to its unique design. Here the sterling does have some wear more so on the back and with the earrings. The rhinestones are all original but some are less bright than others. The large center blue stone in the brooch is in excellent condition. I do think this could be cleaned up to sparkle and shine more if desired. Nothing is structurally wrong and there has been no repairs and it looks great. I have not seen sets like this in true excellent condition and this really is beautiful, I just want to disclose all details, as I am known as a condition freak. The set weighs 52 grams so it is very substantial.
