This is a fun piece for the ephemera collector; doubly so for a Francophile: a unique Versailles souvenir. When a postcard wasn't enough, a person could send a carte-lettre, which was a double-sided card that sealed. This one is a "tourist album" containing an accordion pull-out of Versailles photos. This carte-lettre is around 5.5 by 4 inches. When opened, a 22-inch strip of paper with four photos provides lots of room for trip notes verso!
It's a bit confusing in my photos because I couldn't get one picture with the entire pull-out. But there are four photos in the strip plus photos on the front and back of the "carte-lettre." Notice the left interior flap of the carte-lettre. The dateline is partially written for 191_. So that definitely helps date this item! It shows some signs of age, but for being at least 99 years old, it's overall in very good antique condition.
Please: the scanner and the camera show different colors for the carte-lettre. It is vintage cream white. The photos make it look too white; the scanner makes it look more yellow. It's actually somewhere "antiquey" between:)
