I don't know if dogs were ever used as work animals here in the U.S. (aside from huskies in the north), but they were definitely common in Europe. In fact, real photo postcards of dogs pulling wagons are a top favorite to collect among French folks and these cards can be tres cher. This one may not be a real photo but it's quite special in its own way. Verso, the printer noted: "New embossing process, with leather, paper, etc." The end result is amazing and the scene is charming. Fido is helping the milk lady make deliveries! Although not postally franked, the undivided back helps us date this card to about 1898 to 1903. Unused, mint condition. 3.5 by 5.5 inches. A real gem for the collector!
