André Renoux (1939-2002) is a French painter considered the "father" of the Paris School of Urban Realism. However, he painted outside Paris, too. This is a rare one that comes from his New York series. While I knew he exhibited world wide, I didn't realize to what extent he loved New York. In researching this rare vintage postcard, I discovered several of Renoux's paintings available at 1stDibs. One of his New York lithographs listed with that site is dated "Around 1980." How long he spent in New York painting I don't know, but he had an exhibit in New York in 1984 and subsequently that same year, the book "New York by Renoux" was published (in Brittany, France, no less!) I'm guessing that this is likely one of his works featured in the book: the iconic restaurant Palm Too in New York city. Artist-signed at the bottom right. Hints of wear on corner tips/edges, but overall, in fine vintage condition. About 5.75 by 4-1/8 inches.
