This antique postcard is an original watercolor painted by the sender. I wish I could tell you that Charles Bayome (Bayonne) was a famous French artist, but unfortunately my online research couldn't verify anything. Nonetheless, the blonde-haired ballerina is a charmer! Verso, Charles wrote: "My dear Hortense, Opposite I did a portrait of Yvonne if she became a dancer at the opera. Do you find a resemblance?"
This card is postally mailed but the franking is not readable. However, I can tell you that this version of the sower on the red 10 centimes stamp first came out in 1906. My guess-timate is that this card was sent sometime between 1906 and the first world war. It is typical antique postcard size: about 3.5 by 5.5 inches. Superb antique condition for this miniature work of art!
