This is one of several rare Renoux postcards I was able to get my hands on while in France this past March. Some of his cards are easier to find (you'll see I have them offered at rock bottom prices with multiple copies available). But it doesn't take long in collecting a series to realize which ones are tres cher/tres rare. This is one of those rare beauties! There is a Cafe St. Honoré operating in Paris but it doesn't resemble Renoux's art and the street number doesn't match at all. In fact, in my typical OCD style, I finally found the location Renoux painted at 95 rue St. Honoré and it is sadly closed under a different name. So this is indeed yet another historical place that the artist has helped preserve through his art. THIS Cafe St. Honoré boasted of offering famous herbed cooking; rotisserie meats, poultry and game. Butter, eggs and cheeses also noted, no doubt to show they served the best, freshest ingredients!
The card is written on verso, but not dated. Based on other cards I've had, I'd date it to circa 1980s-1990s. About 5.75 by 4-1/8 inches. Artist signed and almost mint condition.
To see all the Renoux cards currently available, use RENOUX in the word search box.
