This is one of the rarer cards in the series of Paris business scenes immortalized by French painter André Renoux, "father" of the Paris School of Urban Realism. In the book "Remembering Paris," illustrated by Renoux, the Au Caïd is featured with this notation: "Directly opposite the Thermes de Cluny, the tobacconist shop Au Caïd has proudly offered an extraordinary selection of pipes for more than a century." According to Google, the owner has relocated around the corner and down the street to 12 Rue de la Sorbonne. (It makes one wonder what business now resides in the charming corner building from Renoux's days, circa early 1980s.)
The postcard measures about 5.75 by 4-1/8 inches. Some wear on the bottom corners, but overall, this card is in near mint unused condition.
