Unlike most of the André Renoux postcards that feature Paris shop fronts, this card takes us north to the banks of the Oise River. Renoir and Monet both are known for famous "frog pond" paintings, but I don't know the language well enough to explain why this bar/buvette at the "Grenouillière" is spelled with an extra "i" at the end. This bar describes itself as "the rendez-vous for fishermen" and indeed, they seem to have thought of everything, from barge rentals to billiards and rooms to rent! Interestingly, I found Renoux's original painting, oil on wood, for sale at an online designer's decorator store and it's dated circa 1985. This card is a rare one in the series, unused and in mint condition. Brought back from my Feb.-March trip to France! Artist signed. About 5.75 by 4-1/8 inches.
