Here is a unique advertising card, antique postcard size (but not a postcard per se) of 5.5 by 3.5 inches, with two embossed mermaids! An Art Nouveau border surrounds the words "L'Art Sanitaire Francais." That's French for sinks and bathtubs! Balneo is Latin for bathing. Today at 64 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris you won't find a store selling spa supplies or bathtubs; it's the home of the art house Opera Gallery. But back in the day, that address was an aspiring business, a limited company (Societé Anonyme) with 310,000 francs in capital. Would you have invested in them? Business aside, it's the mermaids who steal the show here. A few light foxing spots on this creamy, off-white card and an errant dark speck at bottom left. Please note that the photos make the card look white; the direct scan/first picture is the more accurate color. Although I can't find any history of this business, I feel confident in dating this card to the turn of the century, late 1890s and early 1900s.
