The scan does not do justice to this darling bear illustration by British artist William Ellam. If you are a collector of his charming anthropomorphic characters, then you likely have others in this series and know that the background browns are a rich chocolate with red undertones. Ellam biographical information seems to be mostly non-existent. In my French postcard "bible" Neudin's Les Meilleures Cartes Postales d'Illustrateurs," notes that Ellam was active from 1900 to 1918. This postcard was published by B. Dondorf of Frankfurt, Germany; it was mailed to Vienna, Austria, in 1922. As you can see, the card's previous owner took a paper punch to it. (I've priced it accordingly, but feel free to make an offer.) The bottom left corner is creased and the other corners show wear. Still, it's as charming now as it was a century ago!
