This antique French Christmas postcard shows its age with the worn away corners and surface wear on the glossy finish. It's not the typically pristine card I strive to offer, but it oozes such old-fashioned holiday charm and ambiance! The paint wash accents that have been applied by hand are bold, colorful, "outside the lines" and a wee bit tacky. Perfectly imperfectly. The Edwardian girl holds a horse and carriage and the tree itself is decked with toys. Verso I love the script which has been carefully written by a youngster's hand: "Dear Cousin, I write you a few words to tell you that I'm learning well in class. We are all well and we wish you good health. I wish you a Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year. Your cousin, Marie-Louise Benezech"
Typical antique postcard size, about 3.5 by 5.5 inches. As mentioned, this card shows its age with dog-eared corners and superficial creases. I've priced it accordingly. Not dated but I feel confident in saying this card is circa 1904-1918.
Please note that I've temporarily relocated. New computer screen and adjusting to new surroundings, light sources. I strive to capture the correct tones and shades in postcards, but it's often simply not possibly with the glossy surface and light refracting. However, I've included a direct scan as well as a photo. The background looks much lighter in the photo; it is a dark gray with red undertones. What you see on screen may not look exactly the same in hand, but I guarantee you'll be pleased with this cutie.
I have another card I think it would pair up with nicely as seen in the last photo. It is listed here: https://www.rubylane.com/item/274812-8609/Heureux78-Noel-Edwardian-Girl-Toys-Antique
