Beautifully clear franking verso shows that this artist-signed postcard was mailed to Charlotte in Friedrichshafen, Germany, on February 7, 1899. The striking image on the front by Czech artist Franz Bohumil Doubek (1865-1952) is his interpretation of Eurydice, known in various versions of Greek mythology as an oak nymph or as one of Apollo's daughter's. Most notably, her story is that as the beloved wife of Orpheus, who tried to bring her back from the dead with his enchanting music.
This card is written on in the borders on the front since that is the only space for a message. Overall, especially considering its age, it is in fine used antique condition. 5.5 by 3.5 inches.
