One hundred years ago in 1907 Eugenie sent this silk postcard to her friend in Poitiers, France. If this lady in turquoise represents the New Year, what a beautiful year ahead! It is a gorgeous scene that has been printed on fabric. Wearing a crown of flowers, this long-haired blonde beauty looks like a winter goddess, decked out in a turquoise coat lined with ermine. Her "car" looks to be a hand-carved wooden carriage. Perhaps this was the artist's conception of blending old with new as so many changes leading to the industrial revolution were happening at the turn of the century. French Happy New Year greetings are printed on the silk at the bottom. The light album impressions at the corners help explain the near perfect preservation of this miniature piece of fabric art. This card is a quarter inch smaller than most antique postcards: 3.25 by 5.25 inches.
