I have two of these postcards by the same artist, each featuring a beautiful girl in her native folklore costume. This listing is for the girl with the rich gold top and the red trimmed 'angel' sleeves. Alas, I couldn't find any information on an "M. Levis" and I'm not sure what area of France this costume represents. After obsessively searching, I think -- and this is pure conjecture -- that this is from the Alsace region, perhaps representing a dress for a wedding or an extra special occasion. The Alsatian women in particular seem to fancy the huge bows in the hair. This beauty's costume has Renaissance overtones in my opinion. Here's what I'm sure of: the card is typical antique postcard size, about 3.5 by 5.5 inches. It has a goldleaf decorative border overlay and except for hints of wear at the corner tips, it is in near mint unused condition! I've included direct scans as well as a photo taken at natural window light. The photo makes the postcard look lighter than it is but also helps show detail and quality of the card. Nothing to hide here. Purchase satisfaction is guaranteed!
Again, this listing is for one card, but if you buy both -- remember: BUY MORE, Save More! See details on my home page.
