If you're getting a sense of deja vu, it's because I have another listing for The Mermaids here: https://www.rubylane.com/item/274812-8407/Parisian-Artist-Albert-Guillaume-Mermaids-Salon

This mermaid scene is unique among Guillaume's portfolio. He usually painted Paris social scenes or army illustrations and cartoons. In the last photo, the card for this listing is in the middle. The card in green tones is in my personal collection and the one on the left is the other listing. I wanted to show you the difference in tone and printing quality although all published by the same company! The blues are a tad darker and more saturated in this card (notice how rich the colors are even when the card is photographed in bright sunlight and under a lamp as shown in the other photos) but I think the flesh has a richer saturation in the other one available. Which one is your favorite? This card does have torn patches verso, where it had been glued into someone's album, but no creases and in overall near mint, unused condition. Typical antique postcard size: about 3.5 by 5.5 inches.

Born in Paris in 1873, Albert Guillaume briefly studied at the Academy in Paris, but he was largely self taught. From book illustrations to posters, from caricatures to oil paintings, Albert made a name for himself during the Belle Epoque. Sadly, he died during the war, during the occupation in the rural village of Faux in 1942.

To find a good quality card of "L'Epave" is no easy task. Not impossible, but it can takes months and months of patient searching. I got lucky and found a French dealer who had two copies! Everyone has their own pricing method/value system. For me, I ask myself: how easy is it to find this postcard again? How easy is it to find an unblemished card? So, if you've read this far, I know you're really taken with these mermaids and I'm happy to offer you 30 percent off whichever mermaid postcard you'd like: this one OR the other one listed here: https://www.rubylane.com/item/274812-8407/Parisian-Artist-Albert-Guillaume-Mermaids-Salon Also, remember: more savings available if you add another item to your purchase orders!
