H. Cool sent this beautiful real photo postcard to send get well wishes to his uncle. How cool is that? (You know I couldn't resist saying that:) This French carte postale is a German-printed "oranotypie." Thanks to my favorite postcard site, the Metropolitan Postcard Club of New York, for this concise explanation: "A Uranotypie (Oranotypie) is a trade name for a type of glossy real photo postcard published by the New Photographic Society in Berlin at the beginning of the 20th century. These cards are hand colored and come with gilding." This particular card has the hand-detailed gilding on the girl's necklace. This card shows its age more so than most of my offerings, but ... she's so cute and precious with her doll in hand. I've priced her accordingly. Typical antique postcard size: about 3.5 by 5.5 inches. Circa 1904.
Please note: because of the glossy surface and because my camera and scanner both conspire against me, it is difficult to capture accurately the tones. However, I've included a direct scan as well as a photo taken at natural daylight and between the two, you get an idea of the what you will receive. The colors may not be exact, but the charm comes through clearly.
