This vintage luggage label from the Ile de France luxury ship shows wear on the dark blue background. Conversely, the metallic gold pigment overlay has held up perfectly! Shabbily chic yet so beautiful and oh my, what a history! This ship racked up quite a few "firsts" in its time. It met a sad fate when taken over for service in WWII, but at one time, it was THE No. 1 ocean liner that Americans chose for travel to and from France. Check out Wikipedia's history of the Ile de France and you'll have all the more appreciation to have a piece of it from its luxurious past. Just over 5.75 inches long and about 4-1/8 inches across. This is one of scores of vintage original luggage labels I have available (see the last photo). I'll be adding more each week.
If you would be interested in a luggage label from a certain city in France or from a specific country, send me a message and I'll look through my stash. I'll get it listed and notify you to give you first opportunity at buying it, but at no obligation. Your requests help me narrow down where to start when I have so many of something, whether it be postcards, luggage labels or other ephemera. Merci beaucoup!
