This four page document bears the date of October 3, 1786, in two different places. I confess that there is very little I can read on this contract, but I found the age and the variety of signatures on the last page to be particularly interesting. The French dealer I acquired it from said it is called a General Seal document and it is from Amiens, a city north of Paris renown for its cathedral with a labyrinth. Unfortunately, someone through the centuries opted to trim the top instead of leaving the original ragged edge. Hence, I have priced this antique accordingly. I hope this doesn't offend your sensibilities, but I have used antique papers like this as gift wrapping for a truly unique present presentation! The paper is a warm, off-white cream color and the dark brown-black ink/writing is bold and clear.
