This unused ocean liner postcard, awash in a rainbow of colors, is a souvenir of Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha, more commonly known as the NYK Line, one of the oldest and largest shipping companies in the world based in Tokyo, Japan. Verso: "Shouts of 'Bon Voyage' and cascades of paper ribbons mingle as N.Y.K. ship departs." Notice that this card is embossed, which creates a sea of ridges for all the streamers. This postcard came to me from France, so it has been circulating the globe. A cursory review of the NYK Line's history makes me think this could have been part of a travel package advertising one of their ocean liners on the Yokohama to London route between 1930 and 1939. The hat style in the illustration confirm these dates. Slight signs of wear on the corners, but overall, this card is in fine vintage condition. Just under 3.5 by 5.5 inches.
