This is one of six Hans Zatzka postcards I have available, all featuring pretty ladies with Cupids, all from the collection of Polish Count Benedict Tyszkiewicz (1852-1935). The Count, a famous photographer in his own right, lived in Paris and was a member of the Paris Photo Club and the French Photographical Society. He was also a well-known art collector as well as a patron of the arts. He would often buy first-run, top quality chromolithograph postcards, put his return address stamp on them, and have them delivered to the artist to be autographed! I initially thought the handwritten/dated notation on these cards could be just such an autographed card. However, the more I've examined the funky marks and the date notations, I think these are the Count's handwritten notes. Nevertheless, "A Flower of Love" is an example of Zatzka doing what he did best: fantasy scenes with Cupids that capture the heart in layers of rich colors!
Typical antique postcard size: about 3.5 by 5.5 inches. Overall, in fine antique condition.
To see all of the Count's cards I have available, copy and paste Tyszkiewicz (or Count or Polish) into the search bar.
