In more than a decade of collecting and selling antique French postcards, I've been privileged to acquire the series of 4 playing cards featuring Belle Epoque stars as queens less than a handful of times. It's near impossible to find each card in the set in excellent condition and if so, the price can be prohibitive. So, I've decided to break up the latest set I found and offer them individually. Here is the piece de resistance, the one who is always the hardest to find to complete the set: Cleo de Merode, as the Queen of Hearts.
This unused card with the undivided back (dating it to 1903 or earlier) shows very minor blemishes. Overall, it is in near mint condition: gold leaf and red paint accents applied by hand. On my screen, the card's Art Nouveau background looks more black and white but in actually it also has soft gray-beige tones. It depends upon the lighting. Typical antique postcard size: about 3.5 by 5.5 inches.
