This 5-decade rosary is missing 7 beads. You can see in the variety of photos and scans I have provided that, where some beads are missing, there is an extra long chain link. I don't know how this affects its use as a rosary. Personally, I love imperfect old things that people repaired as best they could and continued to use. These 'blemishes' make it all the more a treasure, that it was preserved instead of sadly just thrown away. Also, the striped white on white glass bead design is lovely. And then there is the handmade crucifix with the wooden inset! Note that the wooden inset shows on both sides -- that's rare. The cross measures 1.25 inches tall and 3/4 of an inch wide. The rosary is 10.75 inches to the top of the center medal and 4 inches from the medal to the tip of the cross. The medal with the Madonna has markings on the front, but I can't determine what those are, whether that's France worn off the edge or what?
I am far from being an expert on rosaries but as I was shopping at the second largest flea market in France, in Rennes, this past September, I saw enough rosaries to note which ones stood out or had that special something 'different' about them. So despite its missing beads, I felt this rosary was still special. Do you agree?
