If you can read French, this book is a literature treasure trove. If you can't read French, there's still plenty to love about it. Tracing French literature from medieval times to the 20th century, there are two stunning examples of illuminated script, gold leaf highlights and all! My favorite is the 2 page pull-out, a facsimile of one of Victor Hugo's manuscript. There are several other facsimiles of famous authors' writing plus excerpts from plays and poems. Published in 1922, this book shows some age. The binding toward the back of the book is coming loose. The spine at the top has a couple of wavy indents. But overall, especially considering its age, this book can proudly stand on its own in your library or on your coffee table. For the mixed media artist, it's temptation itself! Light Dijon mustard yellow cloth hardback cover, it measures about 11 by 7.5 inches.
