Here are two versions of Austrian Max Kurzweil's (1867-1916) painting "A dear visit." Ein lieber Besuch. One card is unused and almost pristine, in rich saturated color. The other is a blue-gray monotone that shows soiling, but it adds poignancy to the artist's story and puts it in historical perspective. It is dated Nov. 1, 1916, mailed from Mannheim, Germany and sent to a soldier. I can't read German but the handwriting is lovely. It is up to us to fill in the blanks, but all in all, this duo of postcards is a heart-touching pair.
Each card is about 5.5 by 3.5 inches.
