The detail in this antique French postcard is incredible: from the portrait in the woman's locket to the book she's reading. And then, of course, there is the lace! At first look, you may think the diagonal lace strips and ruffles are her negligee, but upon closer examination, you'll see that is her bed covering, which matches her pillows. You might be tempted to remove the stamp just to see the detail in the lamp fixture! But that bold, clear 1907 franking has its own appeal.
Colorized by hand, this real photo postcard has thick dots of white paint that decorate the woman's gown. A glossy finish, this card shows the most minor signs of wear, really irrelevant considering its age.
Verso, a message from Rene to George makes us pause. "And soon a favorable response." A humorous scribble or some cryptic meaning?
