This is one of several postcards I have featuring the adorable pet scenes of London-born Arthur John Elsley (1860 – 1952) and his only daughter, Marjorie. The series is numbered 4010 with the French title of "Ses Petits Chères," her little dears. However, the accompanying German titles vary. This one, for example, is called "Do Not Be Angry." The tenderness of the little girl holding the huge St Bernard's paw tugs at the heart!
This card is unused but based on the others I have (one franked 1908), I feel confident in saying these are pre-WWI, circa early 1900s.
The creamy white border shows signs of age, but the card itself is in fine antique condition. No creases and lovely pastel colors!
Size: about 3.5 by 5.5 inches.
To see all four available, just type in Elsley in the word search box.
