Printed in Germany (note the "postkarte verso), this postcard was mailed from Lyon to Paris. The franking isn't readable but circa 1904-1914. This image has been color tinted by hand. At first glance, if you are like me, you will simply see a hauntingly beautiful image of a lady in art nouveau style. But once you start looking at it closely, you'll see this is the Madonna! Draped in her traditional long flowing blue mantel, she grasps a large palm frond in one hand while holding the other end arched over her head. The background surrounding her halo is an intricate floral design: holly! I tweaked the scanner images and also took photos trying to unsuccessfully capture the exact tones of this card. It is a rich antique umber with golden yellow undertones in one light and more red when you look at it the other way! But either way, you'll be pleased with this hand-tinted beauty. Size: about 3.5 by 5.5 inches. In overall fine antique used condition. Hints of wear on the corners/edges but not any more than to be expected for something that is about a century old.
