This unsigned artist postcard was mailed in 1904 from Switzerland to Châlons-sur-Marne, France [known today as Châlons-en-Champagne]. Four drivers are decked out in khaki and olive green coats and hats, all sporting goggles. Two men are standing, arms around each other's shoulder, and two -- who look to be children -- are sitting. Covered from head to toe in their riding clothes, they look more alien than human, especially with the goggle "bug eyes." But their smiles speak volumes about the joy of the open road. Behind them we get glimpses of wheels and a red-bodied open touring car.
Almost all of the blank white space around the illustration is filled with French script to "Ma petite cherie" ... .
Light album impressions on a couple of the corners but overall, especially considering its age, this card is in excellent condition. Size: about 3.5 by 5.5 inches.
