This antique French postcard is one of several in a rare series that features the face of a pretty lady with the wings of a butterfly. In this one, the wings are lavender and the woman looks like a Gibson girl with her hair piled high on her head. Perhaps a turn-of-the-century celebrity? This fantasy scene mixing real photo with color-tinted, metallic gold hand-detailed art is entitled "Wings of Love." Produced by Editeurs d'Art of Paris, this card was mailed in 1905. The undivided back tells us it was printed even earlier, 1903 or prior. Virtually no surface wear. The only signs of wear are on the white border edge. For its age, this card is in near mint condition. Size: about 5.5 by 3.5 inches. IF you would like to collect more cards in the series, just let me know and I'd be happy to help you. There is also a similar series that is a collaboration between the famous Reutlinger studio and artist John Laurent.
