This antique French Christmas postcard with Joyeux Noel greetings is a montage of an 'angel' in front of a large pine branch bearing candles. She is in a heavenly setting, standing in a cloud with a single huge star behind her and smaller stars in the background. This is a sepia-toned real photo that has been colorized by hand: a pastel green gown for the angel, pink and golden yellow on her wings. If the partial green French postage stamp bothers you, that is easy enough to remove from a glossy finished card such as this one. Just rub the stamp gently with a moist cloth and it will disappear. The postal cancellation is not clear but I feel confident in saying this card is pre-WWI. It of interest to note that the publisher, EAS, is E.A. Schwerdtfteger & Co. of Berlin. With offices in London and New York, EAS was one of the largest producers of real photo postcards on bromide paper, according to the Metropolitan Postcard club of New York. Size: about 3.5 by 5.5 inches. No creases. Typical surface wear on glossy finish and wear on corner tips. Overall, for its age, this card is in excellent antique condition.
