This is a rare design among antique April 1st French postcards. A real photo of a girl has been morphed into a hand-painted illustration of a curving fish tail. The mermaid has her arm wrapped around the number 1. April 1 is painted a red-orange color and accented with gold metallic stripes. Seaweed, jellyfish and other fish compliment the illustration. Postmarked 1907, the card has a glossy finish. There is a small crease about 1 inch long to left of the first leg in the "A," another light crease about center of the left edge and the top left corner tip is creased. As you can see from the photos taken at different angles, these signs of wear are barely visible and are not severe enough to detract from the beauty of the postcard. The artist initialed his montage: note the EU within a circle at bottom right. Size: about 5.5 by 3.5 inches.
