This postcard was mailed in 1906. In the past 108 years, a few of the glass beads have fallen off, but overall, it is quite incredibly preserved!
This is one of two glass-bead cards I have featuring Reutlinger montages of an actress. La Belle Otero listed is here: http://www.rubylane.com/item/274812-7489/Belle-Otero-Real-Photo-Reutlinger
This card features a double dose of Belle Epoque dancer Luz Chavita. IF her face looks familiar, perhaps you've seen my other listing of her: http://www.rubylane.com/item/274812-7431/Real-Photo-STAGE-STAR-Chavita
The main problem with glass bead and glitter cards is that the beads/glitter come loose and then severely scratch the portrait, making it quite unsightly. This montage of Chavita isn't perfect, but overall it is in exceptional condition. I have included many photos taken in different light, at different angles, plus scans, and in the closeups you'll see little indents in the background caused by loose beads. However, her face has withstood the test of time! With the naked eye, she's still as beautiful as the day the card was printed. If you zoom in, examining the card with a jeweler's loupe, you'll see some signs of age, but the overall lasting effect of this card is simply stunning! Most of the beads that have fallen off have come off from the bottom tier of her gown. I'll send you the loose beads I have:)
The beads on her dress have been glued on meticulously with care. Whoever did it went to a lot of trouble using the THREE different colored beads! There is also glitter on her necklace. Slightest signs of age/wear around the white border edge/corners. None of this distracts from the overall beauty and uniqueness of the heart of the card.
Size: about 3.5 by 5.5 inches.
To help preserve the beauty of this card, I will mail it in a first class priority box in bubble wrap. It made its to me all the way across the Atlantic mailed flat in a plastic sleeve, but that sleeve is now thoroughly scratched and there are little loose beads at the bottom of it! So I'm not putting it back in that plastic sleeve or even in a new plastic sleeve. I'll include both for you, but in my opinion, this type of card really needs to be displayed in a shadowbox.
NOTE: if you buy one or more cards along with this one, the postage will be only one $5.95 small flat rate priority box charge.
