Sofia Chiostri, born in Florence, Italy, in 1898, became as famous as her father (Caro Chiostri, illustrator of the first Pinocchio book) after World War I. Romantic dancing couples in powdered white wigs were often featured in her sets of postcards. I think of her style as Art Deco meets Marie Antoinette. All of Chiostri's postcards were printed in Italy by Ballerini & Fratini. This postcard was sent in March 1948. Chiostri died in 1945. I can't help but wonder if this card wasn't printed shortly after her death to commemorate her art legacy ... . There are white specks on the Marquis's black outfit; edge nick at the top and as the back shows, a small crinkle. Despite these signs of age/wear, I'd still classify this card as in overall almost mint condition, especially considering the light colors. Very nicely textured linen. Size: about 3.5 by 5.5 inches.
