I was born in a cabbage patch. Weren't you? The tales of where babies come from are varied but the cabbage story is one of my favorites. I'm influenced by postcards like this one that are so impressive! This card was mailed in 1907 to newborn Jacques and the sender wrote, "Dear little Jacque, I hope that you will also be a nice as the little boy this is in the cabbage... ." On the front, the French text at the bottom says (as best as I can figure:) From my fresh cabbage leaf I say it unceremoniously That if you tenderly welcome me I will be a very nice boy!
This card has a matte finish. The color is rich and saturated. When held at an angle, the birds in the background flash gold from delicate hand detailing. The white border shows some light soiling but the heart of the postcard is incredible and excellent antique condition.
